Rock River Issue Teams

The Rock River Coalition (RRC) is a basin-wide not for profit organization whose mission is to educate and bring together people of diverse interests to protect and improve the environmental economic, cultural and recreational resources of the Rock River Basin in Wisconsin.

In 1998 the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) changed its organizational structure to a basin approach (make link to DNR website) and began to develop basin partnership teams in Wisconsin’s 23 river basins. Since the Rock River Coalition (RRC) had been in existence since 1994 with a similar goal to the DNR partnership team effort, the DNR asked the RRC to take on the responsibilities of a basin partnership team. This unique collaboration brought the DNR, the UW-Extension Basin Educator for Natural Resources and the RRC together to take action on natural resource concerns in the basin.

In order to identify the major issues and areas of concerns in the basin a forum was held in November 1998. As a result of the Rock River Basin Forum: ‘The Powers of Partnerships’, six Rock River Coalition issue teams were established. The teams are composed of people from organizations, agencies and businesses, and of course, private citizens.
